RE: WoW - Hunter Talents

While pre-planning for another Hunter alt-character, it occurred to me that while I was interested in a Survival-build, the various Survival-talents were a chaotic mish-mash of choices, and not as straightforward as Beast Mastery and Marksmanship.

To put it simply... what does it mean to specialise in Survival? DPS? CC? Going melee and being the butt of jokes in raids?

I have read good things about Wyern Sting and Expose Weakness in various "Guides", but it gave me the uncomfortable feeling that the Survival Hunter was being treated like the Necromancer in Diablo II. Being a Curse-Bitch and nothing more.

"Hey man, curse that monster and then get out of the way!"

Thoughts?

Survival is uncommon. For levelling i'd go BM or MM, but the most fun i've ever had with a hunter is survival. It is basically a utility build while the other two are a dps build. You won't be on top of the damage list as survival, but you will bring some good crowd control and debuffs into your party. Honestly, I would wait until raiding before going surv. and then see if your guild can use you. I think every raid should have at least one survival hunter, but sadly they are kinda misunderstood and underrated.
