Why would you want to kill Elminster? He is just another mage, is he worth tons of XP or something?

Elminster Cannot be killed since he's protected by Mystra and that gives him the "cannot be killed" ability
I think Greenwood and WotC had an agreement Elminster cannot die or something

It is god. Read one of those history books for example. Some of them are about Mystra.
Technically: If you really want to kill him you should edit his personal file and remove whatever you will find on him - I think so.
