Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Brought to you by, Lady Blue
Your waitress, musician, and capuccino specialist

Lady Blue03 02-16-2003 08:28 PM

Hi all, well, g2g shopping with my mom today, got a new outfit and Starbucks *sighs* life is good :D
Hope you are all doing well

harleyquinn 02-16-2003 08:43 PM

Evening all, how's everyone? We managed to miss the snow up here, but we got arctic cold air in exchange (-5F without the wind chill last night). They say it'll be near 40 F by the weekend. Here's hoping *crosses fingers*
Quite the interesting bit of chatter going on in the cafe tonight with all the rapping and all. That's what I love about it, you never know what to expect when you walk through the door.
Kat, glad to see you're still online and that you're getting to see more of your Dad.
Hi Arion, wherever you are :D

Attalus 02-16-2003 10:01 PM

Hey, Jen, glad you are still condescending to waitress us clueless "adults" (boy, I hope you are still around when you turn 21.) Actually, I hope that I am still around when you turn 21! Have a good time, and best of luck, anyhow!

antryg 02-16-2003 10:08 PM

Hey Att! I have a medical question for you. (It's not for you Willow since a knife isn't involved :D ) My wife's blood sugar level is above 2000. The doctors are saying that it is probably caused by all the steroids they are pumping into her. Have you ever heard of steroids causing diabetes-like symptoms?

Attalus 02-16-2003 10:21 PM

Antryg, yep, all of the corticosteroids cause both insulin resistance and glucagon production, so elevate the blood glucose. And, btw, I took out my first appendix before Willow was born. I have shoes older than her. Not to speak of the W&W Forum.(*(^&^%$#. *Here he lapses into unfortunate total illegibility, probably due to the martinis he has drunk.* CV, don't even start!

antryg 02-16-2003 10:35 PM

Thanks Att. I'm not feeling a great deal of confidence since my wife has been in the hospital since last Monday, I've never talked to the same doctor twice, and our primary care physician isn't involved at all. What makes it really frustrating is that they can't decide if she is experiencing asthma or emphesema-like symptoms that will get better in the sweet bye-and-bye.

HOW TO KEEP AN ENGINEER HAPPY .....
Ensure there are plenty of toys to play with.

Hey All!

Spent the day assembling and playing with my new toy - 5.5 HP snowblower!!!
*emails Piestrider back to Attalus* Thanks for the loan Att!!

Ya know, I was just out 4 hrs ago clearing the driveway and street with the new toy and already it looks as if I did squat! Lady Blue you would love it. It's that light fluffy powder, perfect for boarding.

BTW, could I get an Irish coffe?

Cloudbringer 02-16-2003 10:54 PM

Hi everyone! Antryg,I really do hope your wife is better soon! I too, have heard of diabetic reactions to steroid meds (had a diabetic cat, believe it or not!).

Going to play some games and get to bed soon, just checking in.

antryg 02-16-2003 10:59 PM

Thanks SnowCloud! I'll be sure to tell my wife that you had a cat with the same symptoms as her. I'm sure she will be amused. If she isn't can I trade you for the cat? :D I hope you had a great weekend and a good visit with friends.

LOL! Well, it's my only personal experience with the issue, dear! :D Tell your wife, I'm praying for her recovery and well-being and my cats (the curent ones) are purring - always a soothing thing!
Had a lovely weekend. Am getting a cold, I think, but not too bad just yet. Nacht's got to work tomorrow, but I have the day off- well, except for taking him to work! :D

PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;) :D HOWEVER, I'm not gonna jump on anyone for a few of these kinds of things, only if it gets out of hand. :D

Hey I have a question!

Anyone ever notice how most of the US presidetns last names are british? With the execption of Eisenhower and a few others...Most of hem have been british..I wonder why? Given there are alot of British imigrants. But still, it seems like there would be a bit more diversity.

The best credentials in US politics are still if you can claim that your ancestors came with the Mayflower ;)

Maybe that will change if Kareem Abdul Jabbar would run for office. :D And you also have Arnold Schwarzenegger, that doesn't really sound English either. Or would you rather prefer Willem de Bruin ?

If you've ever seen a canadian snow storm just before you had to go to work, you wouldn't say that.

Reminds me of the guy who's wife wouldn't let him park his plow truck at home because it "looked ugly". He worked late most of the time, so he said "fine, YOU shovel it!" After two days of that she relented and let him park it at home. :D

wellard 02-17-2003 08:28 AM

*puts on the kettle for those waking up* have a good day everyone and enjoy those snowball fights. :D

Well, the country was originally settled by British immigrants and founded by British descendants, so it's not all that odd. It has become more diverse, lately, with both Roosevelts (Dutch descent), Kennedy(Irish), and Reagan (Irish). I was going to add Nixon, but he was of Scotch descent, so falls under the British umbrella. Also, immigrants here have tended to adopt British sounding names, as this tended to make them fit in better. If Colin Powell becomes president, we won't assume he was descended from Enoch Powell or Baden-Powell. ;)

Good morning all. Hello to all those who are snowbound. As an Upstate New Yorker who has to deal with several feet of snow in a snowfall on a regular basis (last count it was over 110 inches so far this season), you have my sympathy. The only difference is when we get the amount of snow you're getting, we're still expected to go to work/school/appointments or whatever else. Stay warm and safe!!
How's everyone doing this morning? Have we gotten a replacement jukebox yet? Maybe we should put a gate around it to keep Arion from slamming into it.

Sir_Tainly 02-17-2003 09:54 AM

Hi Harleyquinn,

Good morning to you too..except it's afternoon here Don't think we've spoken before so here's a belated greeting

Morning all!!! Well we have 5'+ drifts covering the front porch and windows..so no sunlight from there....there are 4' drifts in front of the garage doors which won't even lift up...Im glad we went out and got a few extras yesterday now...I think we are stuck untill we get plowed out.

Harley, the difference between where you are and where we are, is that the streets have enough of the snow removed so as to allow cars with 4" of ground clearence to be able to run....even the main roads here are still covered with a foot or more of snow. The Jeep can navigate it ok, but the Grand Am is dead meat. But on the other hand, I don't need to go to the office to work.

It means he was decended from whisky! ;) The correct adjective is 'Scots'. A small point I grant you but you wouldn't believe how much it upsets the Scots when it's misused.

G'day!

Sparing the jukebox today are you

harleyquinn 02-17-2003 12:24 PM

Morning Arion :D

I'd agree about the snow being plowed, except that it's not always the case, especially when I leave at 6:30 in the morning to go to work, yet they still expect me to come in. I personally think the company shouldn't always get to say if they're open or not. I think if the majority of workers think it's too dangerous, they shouldn't require us to come in or use what little vacation time we have. (I can see it now "Yeah, I know it's 70 degrees, but there's the chance of snow, so I don't wanna risk it, won't be in today" )
