it has been like this for a few months now...
I can not uninstal some software I installed, here is some of them...
NWN> an installtion support file could not be installed. system could not find the file specified
AVG> it is not even showing in the programs list, or in the remove program, but yet when I start my system it is there, and I can not get rid of it, I have tried uninstalling it numerous times, and each time it gives me the same error as the NWN...
so how can I get rid of them? I have tried reinstalling the NWN game 3 times, and it is the same thing each time. I can not get rid of it or even fix it :(

sorry about the double topic, my system lost the connection, and when it came back, it posted it again :/

Stormy, uninstall as much as you want to relating to those applications (or as much as you can), then download Regcleaner 4.3 from here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html). Once you've done this, install it, and from there you can manually delete the entries which tie in with NWN and the other software you want to delete. This should get rid of the stuff you don't want, and give you a clean slate for re-installing NWN successfully.

thanks, that link did not work for me, but I did find it when I searched for it now just to figure out how to use it.....

Be really careful with it! Only delete files you're sure you can miss. Most files are easy as they either have the name or publisher which you can identify it by but some you can't and you better don't touch them unless you know what it is,

After your attempted uninstall of NWN, can you still run the game? If not, I would suspect that the majority of it was removed, with the exception of a few minor registry entries and shared files.

My next point would be to make sure that you are logged in as an Administrator to uninstall or install any programs. I would think that you have probably covered this, but it's worth repeating.

You can certainly find programs such as Regclean that will clean out the registry, but it will only clean invalid references. If NWN is still installed as with AVG, it will do nothing to remove these programs. The bigger issue is why you cannot uninstall these programs.

Do you have others that show the same symptoms?

I am still having trouble getting them off the computer, and recently my zone alarm gave me the same error, it is like something is removing files off my system. and I still can not get rid of the nwn, it plays, just very badly, it takes about 15 minutes just to load, then once you get it started, it takes about 4 minutes each time you click to make a move.

Have you run a good anti virus search lately?

Commo 09-23-2004 03:42 PM

If you dont have a good anti virus i know a good online one...but i not sure if im allowed to advertise or not =/

You've been wormified. Heavily. That's my best guess, anyway. See, most worms are performance-degraders, and whyt you described is an extreme case. It could be a number of other problems, but I can't think of anything that would do anything so extreme. Of hardware problems, it might be a faulty RAM. Open up your PC, if you're not comfortable with touching anything, don't, just see if any connectors are loose, or otherwise wrong inside.

Bozos think im allowed to advertise the Virus scan website?
