Hi,

I just started the game over (...it runs well on the
new notebook with WinXP!...except for sudden crashes)
and I ran into a problem I read about (on the old heuristc-
park forum), but I cannot remember any clue. I guess I
did something better the first time.

Why am I not able to enter the Town Hall and the Mage Guild?
It's not highlighted, neither at night nor at day.
Which !$% flag do I have to get?

I have a brand new party, raided the mill, delivered the
toad potion, visited Bersault ruins and entered the crypts's
first floor. Oh, Mon the Sculz deceased recently.

Help, I still cannot enter the town hall or the mage guild!
Thanks in advance,
Andreas.

Welcome to the board, Brandanus!!!

Sounds very much like the Win2K town bug - the solution works for other OS that result in the same problem. Check Saz' techie help desk thread (I just bumped it up for Dark Savant) and you should find the solution there. If not, post to Saz' thread and the techie gurus will lend a hand! Just remember to tell us as much about your machine as possible! ;)

Hi,

thanks for the repost. Although I must admit it's
too much to read though quickly...

AFAIR, the W2K-AVI-bug made it impossible to enter
_any_ building. In my case I can enter all buildings
except Town Hall and Mage Guild. I remember, there
has been something about that, like "only at day"
or so. The topic has been discussed at heuristicpark.com
(the boards don't exist anymore).
I am pretty sure I wasn't able to enter the town hall
when I started the game for the first time, but that's
long time ago (and I remember that Gareth's introduction
ran across the screen blindingly fast, without any voice
output...).

I have some (bad) experience with W2K: the setup didn't run,
(manual setup worked) activating office-functions did freeze
the game, the W2K-AVI-bug and such.
Lacking other hints I should regard your hint and give it
a try.

I played the game first on K6II-350, 96MB, MatroxMill2-AGP(8MB),
ESS1895 Sound and Win98SE. I used DirectX7, later updated
to 8.0.
Now I started over on PIII-850, 256MB, RivaTNT Mobile(32MB)?,
some sound, and WinXP, which includes DirectX8.1 (and that's
a notebook). I'm still investigating, why D3D doesn't work
(dxdiag-tests are running brilliantly), maybe Dx9 fixes
"compatibility bugs" with Dx6.1.

thanks so far,
Brandanus.

Hi,

I checked for the W2K-AVI-bug and *plopp* things are working
fine. It seems, WinXP is very much like W2K (but it didn't like
my W2K video driver).

Furthermore, the D3D-mode seems to work, but the fonts look
crappy and the "icons" are only enlarged.
My video card is an ATI Rage 128 Mobility...

Thanks again for the tip!

Brandanus
