Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher,the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

How is everyone's day today? I'm supposed to be visiting a friend in "suuny Spain", but since I have been here it has rained every day. University starts next week for me.

EDIT: 1st post. I wouldn't have thought that I'll get it. :D

I'm unbearbly tired this fine morning...I don't know why---it's unusual for me...oh well, off the Physics!

Too bad about the rain, dplax. How's the trip, besides that? I've always wanted to see Spain. Especially the areas with middle eastern influence in the architecture. What I've seen of the buildings and fountains on television is beautiful.

The trip is quite fun besides of that. I am visiting my roommate from last university year, since he did not pass the year, so I wasn't going to see him. I am in Galizia, the northwestern part of Spain, where there isn't too much middle eastern influence. It is mostly modern here where I am right now, but we visited some older towns which were quite nice.

hey all. i hear spain is nice. a friend was there for a semester. some jerk got on her messenger at an internet cafe once. weird.

well i am feeling down and confused. it's the usual money and pregnancy problems. still don't know of we're going to have money this month or a baby in 9. so please, someone, cheer me up!

Lessee.... something cheery... mmmm.... nope, sorry. Nothing really out-of-the-ordinary cheery here. Other than today is school picture day for both kids, so they looked better than normal this morning :D

Just thought of something that might make your day brighter... went canoeing this past Saturday with my dad, my wife, and both kids. As we were getting ready, *someone* thought I was ridiculous for my belief that in every canoe trip, someone ends up in the river. "I don't know what you do," she says, "but when I was a kid, we never had those kinds of problems." And when I was a kid, someone always ended up in the water.

Went canoeing down the Grand River out here, seeing a few other canoes, kayakers, and after a while, a sea plane. Kind of strange, but it was flying around us for a bit. We missed seeing it land because it landed around a bend. Oh well...

We eventually lashed the two canoes together with a bungee cord that I brought to tie down our two bags (coolers, really). That made it easier to canoe together.

Then another sea plane came around, and landed on the river in front of us. That was pretty cool... then he waved, and took off again. Which was also pretty cool. I mean, he was maybe 20 yards away.

In taking off, he created a wake. Quite a bit of wake. A lot of wake, actually, and since he was parallel to us, it hit us broadside.

Now, hitting a wake broadside isn't too much of a problem for a canoe, unless it's really big (and can tip you over).

Or if you're lashed to another canoe, which prevents your canoe from rolling with the wake!

Sure enough, the two canoes, still lashed together, were losing the battle. I managed to unlash the canoes before going into the water, but my canoe lost it. Rolled entirely. The other canoe took a little water, but it survived.

I threw the gear from my canoe into the other canoe and eventually handed my son (who, at 4-1/2, did not like the sudden dunking in the river), over to my wife. I then had the joyous task of emptying the water out of the canoe from in the river... doable, but not a whole lot of fun. Fortunately the river was relatively shallow at that point, and I was able to stand on the bottom.

And the thing that ticked me off about the whole thing was that even after that, no one would admit that I was right about preparing for the possibility of going into the river!

Hmmm... not sure if that will cheer anyone up, but at least it may give you a laugh or two... :D

LOL, hope your dried out quickly, Bungleau! LOL! Sounds like a fun trip, even with the dunking. And...you were right! There, now is that better? *giggle*

I always ended up in the leaky canoe when we went out with friends...and I dont swim too well, either! So guess who's buddy made her jump out in the middle of a lake and push the dang thing to a dock when it started pouring rain one day? [img]graemlins/biglaugh.gif[/img]
