If you do grab the idol a really tough (depends on what level you are) creature will meet you outside the cave to kill you. If you don't grab the idol he will not appear.

A somewhat Easter-Egg: You can trade this idol and the Ancient Armor from the Firewine ruins to Ulcaster's ghost for the Vampire Sword, that heals your enemy and damages you.
It's definitely not worth it.

I do not mind about the creature (Killed in on sight!). I do have the idol so should I keep it? Is obtaining the vampire sword the only usage? Is it transfered to BG2?

Could you guys post the statistics of the sword. I've heard cool things about it.

Darthiir: As far as I know, it's the only use. The sword is not kept, I think. But I wouldn't use it anyway.
