Why are all the good companies are being killed. First Looking Glass then Black Isle then Interplay now Ion. This is another sad day :( . I don't want the game industry to be dominated by the tyrannical EA.

Because they start producing garbage, lose people, or hemorrhage money.

Ion sucked. I didn't like them, and their "Thief" was short, and consolized. yey.

And as Seraph said, they made crap.

Ion Storm has one single saving grace in my eyes: Deus Ex. THe second is a disaster, and I don' like the Thief series much, but there was talk of doing a Deus Ex 3, with the original team and going back to the original ideas... so much about that...

Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Oh God, EA having market dominance... ugh.

Kakero 02-21-2005 09:23 PM

Another one? Damn! One by one, gaming companies is going kaput. this is scary!

Sythe 02-21-2005 10:26 PM

Well I won't call ION necessarily crap. I admit Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2 were very lack luster to their predcessors but that is only because both projects were directed my Warren Spector. And heard that he doesn't give any real credit to anybody except himself. I bet all he wanted the greens. Thank god we still have Bioware folks they at least are truly faithful to their gamers.

It's my opinion that once almost all the pc video game companies close, we'll have a shortage of games for a while.

But then things will pick up, when new companies start up, this time dedicated to bringing quality product, seeing how the other companies that released crap ended up bankrupt.

Or maybe I'm dreaming...

We are getting abused by greedy execs that think they can release half finished crappy clone games over and over. Maybe once they realise we won't tolerate this any longer they'll change their business practices.

The only bugs that should be acceptable in a PC game are hardware/software problems, not actual coding in the game.

Strange how consoles games always work without bugs on the first try, but pc games need a couple of patches each before they can come close to playable, if not complete.

I never saw a console game that had half it's ingame content uncompleted either.

KOTOR 2 would seem to be an exception to this.
