I heard you stop at fifteen then at eighteen and other ages. Someone please tell me the truth! I hope when you are near twenty and right now I am sixteen and yet I am a small person who is five foot and eight inches!

A friend I know was 1.60(I really don't have a clue hom much that would be in feet)one an a half years ago, now he's 1.8. He's 18 now. Rates and maximums are different for different people. Normal growth stops at 19, bone development at 17, and facial figurment at 17. That's on an average.

Well, speaking only of growing taller, its probly different for everyone.
This came up when I did an "Ask Jeeves":

"This all has to do with trends in human evolution and is a very very complicated question... ok the average is like 30 for most americans but it depends on ethnicity, ancestry etc. if you haven't grown as tall as your peers, look at your skeletal STRUCTURE, not just your height. forget about height. if your bone structure, look especially at your head (is it more or less like that of an adult male , as compared to your peers) it could be because you are a late bloomers.
late bloomers are actually at the height of human evolution, and you should be proud of it... the whole trend in human evolution has been towards increased intelligence, and this is done partially by estending the third growth phase (as well as the other 3 stages) which is the stage where the brain is the only thing that develops. this is basically childhood before and during puberty. stage 1 is brain growth in the fetus... check with your mother if you were born late. if so, that probably means you are indeed a person that has his life phases extended, and you should be glad because you're more evolved (and will have not only a longer childhood but a longer life.). enjoy. Typically 18 or 21, which is bad for me because I'm a behemoth enough as it is.

LOL!

I was definitely born over 3 weeks late, and I just grew 2 inches last year (I'm 21 now), so I think I've got some late-evolved-phase-whatever left in me...

I'll be 38 in two weeks, and I haven't stopped growing during all that time. At first it was more of a vertical-horizontal combo, but for the last generation or so, it has become exclusively a horizontal expansion.

Five feet eight inches isn't *that* small (although I am five feet no inches so everyone seems ginormous to me ;) ), but you will probably keep growing. It depends on when you entered puberty. Girls tend to stop growing earlier than guys because they enter puberty earlier. For boys it would be unlikely to grow beyond 21, for girls it is more likely 18 at the latest.

I'm a large person, and will tell of events.
Jr High football, ending age 15, 5'9" 175
High School ball, ending age 18, 6'1" 225
After 20 yrs in the Army, 6'1", 245.

So, you never stop growing, it's just how you wear it.

Lucern 09-10-2004 03:29 AM

Yeah you're really not that short. I've only got 2-3 inches on you, and even 5'11 will let you see a lot of guys' bald spots or right over most women. I agree with Felix's last line for height and anything else you can't control.

Oh, and as for Jeeves, that's basically it, but there's no such thing as 'more evolved'. It was nice of them to make the short folks feel better anyway lol.
