I beat the BG2 but I didnt play BG1 before I really wonder about what it's like. What are the main differences between BG1 and Bg2 and which do you prefer? Is there character interactions and romance in bg1?

No romance, no such funny interactions/dialogs. BG1 is very good, many quests, it is just different perspective.

BG1 has tons of NPC's, areas and such... but little interaction and no romance. larger than BG2 (5disks), and Baldur's Gate itself can be really stressful. With so many places to explore... it can become a burden rather than a fun game...

BG2 is more balanced and all, but you won't really have this hatred for Sarevok if you didn't play BG1, and you wouldn't know how Khalid was, etc... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

You will meet Boo and Dynaheir. There is Vic also (I think that her portrait in BG1 was better - she was nicer, not so haughty.

Larger than BG2 hmmm sounds huge http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

But xp cap in Bg1 is only 89.000 xp right? Isnt it very low?

zoltan the exp cap isn't very low because the enemies you kill in bg1 doesn't give you large numbers of exp.So it is very normal.

BG is VERY, VERY, I repeate, VERY good game. It might not seem quite as good if you played BG2 first, but it's a very good game. It's huge, more challenging than BG2 (which I consider a bit too easy), and is just very fun. Overall, a great game.

Well first off just cuz BG I is 5 disks I wouldn't say its larger. I think BG II has less disk space but could take more time to play (more quests packed into less areas etc). Afterall alot of BG I is just wilderness and random encounters.

As for actual differences well yes it is true the xp cap is low. But you start out a complete peon and advance very slowly (monsters you would laugh at in BG II you run in fear from in BG I). There is a great feeling of satisfaction in BG I at the completion of a hard fight or the gaining of a level due to this.

There is less character interaction and no romance or strongholds etc in BG I but you feel probably more connected with your main char as well as the other party members in some ways since its like you were raising them since childhood. All in all BG II is BG I on a much grander scale. I liked it a great deal although BG II improved on many things.

To sum things up:

BGII=New School
BG=Old School(in a coooool old school kind of way...)

So get your butt down to your local dealer and buy it before your neighbour finds out it has become trendy again... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

AAAHHH, BG1!!! that was a fun game. LOTS of areas to explore, and a cool storyline. although, BG2 is better of course. i might just have to play that game again, maybe with a new character this time.

NO EFFECT?!! I need bigger sword! -Minsc-

Well, I am quite sure that BG2 was packed into for CDs, and BG1 also. In any case, BG1 is larger than BG2 in areas. In time and content, it may look like BG1 wasted a lot of space.

It is a good game, don't hesitate to buy it. And the meaning of huge is... huge! I mean, you can enter a house, or whatever almost everywhere!!! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Viconia's porrait in BG2 in my opinion is waay better than in BG1 http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

You should buy BGI for the simple fact that if you have Xzar and Montaron in your party (even for the short trip to Friendly Arm Inn) and Monty dies, Xzar shouts out "MONTARON! NO!....I.....NEVER....loved you!"

and the mighty meeting of Minsc will always be fondly remembered....

That's one bad thing about BG I - no character interactions or romances. It does make it slightly boring, but also the fact that the graphics and sound are much worse in BG I.

Wats the diff. between BG, BG2, Icewind Dale and BG2 TOB? i got BG2..it rocks http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Just stop playing computer, you fucked up nerd!!!!!!

GokuZool 09-23-2001 06:22 AM

What's your problem?

Istaron 09-23-2001 09:23 AM

BG1 rulez. It is much more fun than BG2, I think. Though, it has more areas to explore, so the third and fourth time you play it, it may be a bit boring, but the first game rocks! There are plenty of NPCs. You can acctually have good aligned pure mages and pure thieves.
The 89k exp cap is small if you were fighting BG2-monsters, just as 2.9 million would be small if you fought ToB-baddies. Besides, TotSC raises the cap.

And about differenses... you'll run when you meet ogres, and an exp-reward on 2k will make you fall of the chair on joy http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

man, i'm actually kind of fond of the BGI graphics. in some ways, i like them better than BGII. first off, i think the paper dolls in BGI look cooler...and i like the way that the sprites onscreen are a little bigger. i think the sprites in BGII are too much on the small side...of course, there's the obvious drawback that you can't minimize the side panels, but all in all i very much like the look of BGI graphic-wise.
