I think with my party creation ideas, I've been obsessing with fitting a bard in some how, even if it is just a few levels here and there for the ability to use some items, but optimally I would love the sith song.

Is it really worth it? I mean, bards are fun and all, but can I get by without one? What about just taking a few levels in bard?

You can get by with out one. You need about nine levels to get war chant of sith. And teh spells can be got by a mage and cleric anyway.

Also please not that in IWD2 the War Chant of Sith can only be used in combat.

The bard is much weaker here than he was in IWD1.

There is a mod where it can be used outside of combat I believe

The War Chant is obtained, IIRC, at level 11. I'm currently running a bard, and had intended to switch him to sorcerer when I got the War Chant, but at level 7 he's surely carrying his own weight. He can fight in a pinch, sing while doing anything (lingering song exploit ), cast, and theif. I may wind up keeping him single class, which is saying a lot considering my play style ;) .
