Why do all the latest Forgotten Realms dnd games/expansions that have a subtitle (or however you call it, the second title ) must have it as something of something.

Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter
Icewind Dale: Trials of the Luremaster
Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide (that's a second Shadows by the way)
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer

Re: Of

I don't think it's a new thing. Two of the three Lord of the Rings books were Something of Something Else.

Possibly it gives some kind of cheap personality and uniqueness to whatever it is applied to. This is no ordinary gorge, this is the Gorge of Eternal Peril. There are many amulets about, but only this one is the fabled Amulet of Yendor.

Re: Of

a) In any adventure you have heroes. Heroes live to make a mess of someone's home and to take other people's items. A dungeon crawl is nothing without someone designing, building and populating the place, evil plots can't be stopped if the artefacts are all safe and the villains gone missing. To be a hero you need someone else's order to disrupt, using Of indicates that you can.

b) It's shorter than From, less awkward than 's, and best of all you have a vowel in your acronym of the title making it easier to pronounce. Note that BG: Dark Alliance is an exception to the Of rule, as Alliance of Darkish Nature just doesn't flow the same.

c) It's just wrong without an Of in it. See below:
Baldur's Gate: Sword Coast Tales
Baldur's Gate 2: Amnish Shadows
Baldur's Gate 2: Bhaal his Throne
Icewind Dale: Winter's Heart
Icewind Dale: The Luremaster's Trials
Neverwinter Nights: In the Shadow cast by Undrentide
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes from the Underdark
Neverwinter Nights 2: The Mask that Betrayer has

Re: Of

They do that because they know if they released a game called "Hordes Underdark" Illumina would have an aneurysm.

Ya, but they could've come up with something completely different, that still sounds good. Check this:

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans
Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness
Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal
Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne

2 out of 5 only. And they all sound good.

Just lack of imagination on their part.

(OK, a cookie for anyone who invents the best subtitles for the games mentioned above without using 'of')

Re: Of

OK, more examples:

Myth 2: Soulblighter (1 word subtitles can be great)
Myth 3: The Wolf Age

Hitman: Codename 47
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Hitman: Contracts

Of not used...
