It's hard to explain. I'm trying to get down a narrow hall to a circular room but I'm bombarded by creatures that cast destructive spells!!!

Oh, you are fighting a little kitty person (for got the name of his species).....don't bother with magic, he's got HIGH magic resistance. Better use chaotic command on your fighters and let them CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrows from a distance also helps!!

Ha!!! Rakshasa is his kind!!!
He must have dispelled your chaotic command.....reload and try again. You might want to take a different route, try to attack him from the south side, you got less walking to do, so it is more likely for you to get in close before he lets his spells off.
