Ok. I'm just curious as to what people's voices sound like. Alot of people here on IW have very diverse backgrounds. Some move from place to place, others are born and bred in their home region. So, what accents have you picked up in your travels?

Do you have a Southern US accent coupled with a twinge of nasal Californian drone?

Does your voice have a distinctly central-European linguistic flavour, with undertones of Scouser English?

Personally, I'm a kiwi through and through. Complete with elongated a sounds ('maaaate'), rolled-R's and dulled pronounciation. For example: "That rrradio show is orsome (awesome) maaaate".

So anyways, if you feel you can describe what your accent sounds like in words, then by all means contribute to the enlightenment of the forum and let us all know... [img]smile.gif[/img]

Mel : I think Dutch accents (assuming that is what you actually have) are some of the most beautiful in the world. Along with French and Italian. They have that flowing rich sound that seems to come from centuries of civilised culture ;) ...ok, so all the Dutch people (read females) I've met have been really sexy, you can't blame me for making a mental connection here [img]smile.gif[/img]

But for those who haven't met me:
My accent vacillates between Emma Thompson and Pat Butcher depending on how drunk I am :D

I can't think of anyone on telly who speaks like me. It's not BBC English, it's not Cockney - sort of somewhere in between with a slight almost imperceptible West Country-ish touch on certain vowels.

But it's all charm. And that's a fact. You have what I'd call an 'educated English' accent. Not pretentious, yet not common. Juuuuuust right... [img]smile.gif[/img]

Depends if I'm talking to mates or at an interview. I can talk proper BBC english (well if I try really hard :D ) but most of the time it's a southern england accent i.e. no t's or g's at end of words, no h's at start of words.

Mate is pronounced mae.
What is pronounced wha.
Him and her are pronounced im and er except at the start of a sentence.
Something is pronounced either summin or somethin depending on mood.
Also I tend to avoid the use of the word "are" unless it's really necessary. E.g. I'd say "where you goin?" not "where are you going?" etc.

Great isn't it? :D Makes me sound really uneducated but it lulls people into a false sense of superiority which can be greatly exploited i.e. made fun of later ;) :D
