I had the key for the bell room in the upper monastery. I know I had it, and I camped by the door and saved, came back a day later and the darn key is gone from my inventory and is not in the place you get it originally. I do not want to have to restart the darn game from level 1, though I'm doing that anyways for fun, just to open that door and get those bagpipes. Can anyone help? Anyone have an idea for a workaround? I would even use a freaking trainer, because I know I had the key, the message is saved in text log, and the key did not "respawn" as I'd hoped it would.

Why can`t you loade a save before you get the key??? Remember that it is WERY importen in this game to save ofen in diffrent slots!
BTW i have never heard abouth that anyone have "lost" that key so maby you have dropped it somwere! And you have not "sold" the key to the guy on Lower monastery? if so maby you can buy it back!

And WELCOME to the board man! :D

You get the key in the upstairs (upramp?) room in the gallery where the phoonzang statue is. Check that chest again to see that you grabbed everything. If you don't have it, I'd say reload. The things you get from it are the Forest Cape (?) after dropping down from the control room, the Tosei-do, a Shillelagh, and the fellowship note.

I'm not putting the stinking *spoiler* thing on this note just because I don't think ANYTHING in the monastery could be considered a spoiler

Ummm...the bagpipes aren't in the monastery. They're found on the road to Arnika in a chest.

Also, opening the belfry door isn't absolutely necessary. You'll miss out on some items, but nothing critical.
