Is it worth assembling/keeping it? I read somewhere that what makes a Vorpal Blade special, is the fact that wich each hit, there's a chance that the target is instantly killed, with no saving throw. That true?

You don't have to worry about finding the hilt. As was stated, if you have the blade, you will be approached by a being that will demand the blade back. The choice of keeping the blade or surrendering it will be up to you..
