First of all, I would like to say that I am posting this is the general forum because I don't know if this is a problem specific to Baldur's Gate, or a common problem with installing games.

I have had this game installed on my other computers, but I am unable to install it on my new computer.

When I try to autorun Disk 1, the menu comes up asking if you would like to install, exit, view the readme, or view demos, I hit install and the menu closes but nothing happens. If I try to manually open the setup file by exploring the disc, nothing happens when I click the disk.

I don't think this is due to a damaged CD because I succeeded in installing it on my roommate's comp, and the disk isn't particularly scratched. Can anyone help me out?

Thank you!

You may want to check out this thread on the Bioware forums. Seems a few people are having promblems installing under Windows XP.

Hmm...well I always find the WinXP compatability wizard notoriously..erm..rubbish.

I would suggest copying the CD to your hard drive and seeing if you can run the setup programme from there.

If it installs but you still can't run the game, then the other possible solution if you have the bandwidth is to use BGTutu or similar to run it in the BG2 engine. This works fine for me under WinXP...

BG1 with XP works fine for me.
