After reading this article I never want to hear anyone complaining about "Nazi gold" ever again!! What is good for one ethnic or racial group should be good for all. Selectively supporting the return of stolen property REALY undermines ones credibility in my opinion. It also makes me less likely to believe all the hype, especialy when the objects in question are "of scant artistic merit". Read the article to see what I'm talking about.

As the case worked its way through the courts, a federal judge in Texas in 1993 ordered the government to pay $10m in damages for refusing to give the objects back. That verdict was overturned by a federal appeals court, which ruled that the paintings belonged to the US army under a post-war treaty.
What did the parties signing to treaty agree too? Is keeping of the paintings in violation of the treaty? If there is no violation, there exists no double standard. |
Regardless of who painted them the heir should get his paintings back.

LoA, I'm an artist myself and agree that the heirs should get the paintings back. But the Constitution says that treaties are to be considered the law of the land (or words to that effect). As you know for better or worse we are or try to be a land of laws(or is that lawyers :D )A little diplomatic pressure from Germany might very well turn the tide.
