I use spell trigger with globe of invulnerability,fireshield red and improved mantle,then I cast time stop, ad-dalzims horrid wilting and prismatic spray,when time is started again I cast sunfire and then wail of the banshee to finish the guys off. if that doesnt work,I use greater malison and finger of death the guys dead.

Barb 11-21-2001 02:14 PM

Melfs Minute Meteors.

Sir Exxon 11-21-2001 03:16 PM

That was quite of a tactic (did I spell it correct?), Caine!
I am not so much into magic, I prefer weapons. But I like the spells "disintegrate" and "finger of death".

see ya!

Talthyr Malkaviel 11-21-2001 04:29 PM

I always find it useful to cast a trigger before you get too the enemy with 2 lower resistances and a greater malison, the time stop them, and I find 5 dragons breaths in a row usually pull it off.

Dundee Slaytern 11-21-2001 10:46 PM

Depends on the enemy I am fighting.

Most common 'tactic' I am using now.

I cast Project Image, PI casts Time Stop, PI cast Improved Alacrity, PI spams the screen with Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, enemies choke and die, PI casts Wish and choose the "Rest and Rememorise Spells" option.

Spells-shmells.. I just beat 'em up, them spellcasters :D

I usely prefer up close and personal combat. Just slash those guys into tiny bits!

Barb 11-22-2001 02:19 PM

Hack and slash works for me!

I use oonly a few spells. I'm not very good at using spells.

Lord Ludtke 11-22-2001 04:05 PM

no one mentioned the best trick(albeit a cheap one) of multiple webs with any kind of area affect spell such as incendiary cloud.

Tarox 11-22-2001 04:09 PM

My mage always has all 3 spell triggers
3 Power words on one
and 3 lower resists ont he another

Non magic casting enemies are easy so no tactics needed

The magic casting ones will have already got themselves good protection spells by the time you cast your timestop etc and then anything you cast is no good i find
gotta get those protections down fast then let the warriors chew them up

Dundee Slaytern 11-22-2001 11:14 PM

Enemy spellcasters? I will just summon my good buddy the Skeleton Warrior. ;) They will eventually run out of Death Spell, then the Skeleton Warrior will go on and on and on and- ... ...

Lifetime 11-22-2001 11:45 PM

Dundee Slaytern's Project Image thing. Thats incredible.. They should name spells after him..

Dundee's Magical Duplication or something..

Jafin 11-22-2001 11:54 PM

I always have my mages under stoneskin and Melf's Minute Meteors.

First cast Dispel Magic or Remove Magic to take care of spell protections. Then, I bombard with Spell Sequencer (containing 2 magic missle, 1 melf's acid arrow). Then, start lauching those meteors! Throughout all of this my fighters are smacking the enemies close range.

Hmmmm... I stop using Melf's Minute Meteors all the time when I get the Staff of Magi, but yes, they are very helpful until then.

Lorala 11-23-2001 02:04 AM

I have to agree with Lord Ludtke- my fave spell combo is confusion, web, entangle and cloudkill. Yes, it's cheap, but it makes fighting six umber hulks soooooo much easier.

When your Mage reaches level 12, you can also just cast Death Spell and instant kill all the Umber Hulks. Works on a lot of enemies too.

Doesnt work as often as you'd like. You never know how many enemies its gonna kill...
Shouldnt it be able to kill more powerful and more numbers of enemies as you go up in level? Dangit..

Death Spell can be resisted by Magic Resistance and only affects summons and targets with 8 hit dice( 64 Hp and below) or less.

There was a previous thread where most of the creatures affected by Death Spell were listed. It is a very long list, and a very nice list. Trust me, Death Spell is very useful.

It will always work on Umber Hulks and Minotaurs to list just two examples.

It sorta sucks when you're on a power trip yelling "MUAHAHAHAH I AM UNSTOPPABLE!" and you cast death spell at a bunch of drow expecting them to drop dead at your feet and bow to your power and they just.. dont die.. the nerve!
:(

Inis 11-24-2001 06:46 AM

//begin joke
String joke = new String();
joke = ("Everyone is forgetting magic missile! Have you SEEN what 3 volleys of 5 missiles hitting at the same time does?");
System.out.println (joke);
//end joke

What was all that about?

That is because they have Magic Resistance. Most of your spells will fizzle against them anyway, not just Death Spell. Just summon plenty of Skeleton Warriors and chop-suey them.

Campino 11-24-2001 08:05 AM

If they're magic resistant,use lower resistance,multiple times if necesarry,followed by your favourite spell,works wonders.

Not a viable tactic when there are more than 6 of them. One Drow? Sureeee. 12 Drows? Bring in the Skeleton Warriors.

Campino 11-24-2001 08:31 AM

Yes Dundee,you're wright,my tactic is for small groups,or even a single opponent.I'll keep the skeletons in mind.
Haven't used them much,yet.
