FUNK LEGEND RICK JAMES: 1948-2004
August 6, 2004

The creator of the hit "Super Freak" RICK JAMES has died, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to ET. No details regarding his death were immediately available and the investigation is ongoing. The 56-year-old funk star was best known for his 1981 hit "Super Freak." He later fell victim to a crack cocaine addiction that led to a conviction for assaulting and holding a woman against her will. In 1998, James suffered a stroke. Just two months ago, James took the stage to receive a special ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Beverly Hills.

Rumor has it police are looking for a woman who was last seen with James shortly before his death. According to an unnamed source, she has been described as "a very freaky girl", but not much more is known about her at this time. Individuals with information about her are urged to call 1-800-222-TIPS.

Really, I care about as much of his death as I would about the 34 old Japanner who lives in Tokyo I don't know.

Then why did you even click on this thread then?

It's a shame about Rick James, he was just getting popular again because of that one hilarious skit on The Chappelle Show. I'm not overly suprised though as he has already had a stroke and heart problems in the not-so-distant past. May he rest in peace.

OK, the last part was made up, but I've had so much fun in my life to his music that I felt I owed it to him to tweak his epitaph. I'd rather think (and have the world think) that Rick died in bed with "A really freaky girl" than something so pointless as a heart attack or a stroke.

Yeah I remember that episode in the Chappelle show...it really wasn't as funny as everyone made it out to be. RIP

Hey he was a crazy dude that lived the life as it was for his generation and position at the time, he's certainly not the only one. :D
