How to help Dungeon Craft

I have heard many a fine DCer comment, "I would like to help with Dungeon Craft, but I'm no coder..."

Well folks, I'm here to tell you that you can! That's right! There is something that every single gent and lady can do to help out this little project that could.

Step 1: Be as active as you can. Post here, on the Yahoo list, on the Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventure Community boards, visit SourceForge and post in the forum there, and don't forget the Google group.

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/UAForever/
http://frua.isgreat.org/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/uaf/
http://groups.google.com/group/dunge...ft?hl=en&pli=1

Step 2: get involved by playtesting or reviewing DC designs and bug fixes. Paul has been posting links in these forums when he has each bug fix ready. Just download it and try it out and then post some feedback on how it worked.

Step 3: visit SourceForge and check out the level 9 bugs on the bug tracker. Pick one that you would like to see fixed and read about it. Create a mini-mod that is so small that it can only show the bug to be fixed and nothing more. Post here or on Yahoo to let Paul know which bug you are working on and as soon as you're done with the mini-mod figure out a way that he can get it, such as posting it in the Yahoo groups file section or adding it as attachment to a post here.

Step 4: Write about DC - help by adding to the Help Documentation or the FAQ or the Wiki

Step 5: test and/or write new scripts for spells, monsters, events or anything else you can think of.

Step 6: go back to a step you haven't done and work on that for a while. ;)

All of the above steps would help get the DC project towards version 1.0, and in fact, without 3, 4 and 5 being done, the coders cannot do their job. One of the biggest things holding Paul back is that people are not supporting him. He needs to know what a bug is before he can fix it. And when he does off a fix, he needs to be told if he succeeded or not.

And when you help out, make sure and attach your name to it so that we can give you credit as being part of the DC team. :D

I did one - didn't want to bother Paul too much, though, so I am avoiding doing more until hearing news of the 1st one (complex turning and fleeing bug :D )... :D

Re: How to help Dungeon Craft

I have just clicked on the link of the google group and the first thing I saw was an add with (to say the least) adult content...

I prefer to post here, then. :)
Unfortunately, I have 1. forgotten the password for my FRUA-forum login, and 2. lost my gmx-e-mail adress (not sure why, maybe because I didn't check it for a year or two? :D ) so that I was not able to receive a new password... probably have to use a new profile (maybe Dinonykus...).

Hmm - I don't see any ads (with or without adult content... ;) )

Re: How to help Dungeon Craft

Hmm... Maybe its due to the fact that we look from different countries? I see an add right at the top inviting me to watch mating habits of specimen with the same gender - to use a neutral phrasing... :D
I do not want to look in detail, however...

Strange - I see nothing of the sort! (Good thing, too... :D )

Re: How to help Dungeon Craft

I apologize, Dinonykos. When I click the link, there are no ads whatsoever. And I just did a quick check of the Google Groups terms of service and my settings and there should be no ads at all, but if you are not a google/gmail member, they say it is possible for you to see small text only ads about rpg and dungeons and dragons. But they wouldn't be at the top.

I'm not saying you should go back to the link, but you should do a virus check and think about deleting some cookies in your browser as your browser was hi-jacked. Usually to resolve this kind of issue (99% of the time) you just need to delete your cookies.

Uatu: thanks for making that. :) I saw it, downloaded it and in a little bit will post on the Yahoo list that I can't recreate Paul's video that he supplied in the fix. I guess I should add above, that he needs people to tell him if the fix worked or not. I know that Jadefang tested and wrote about it, but the more people the better. :D
Also, I don't think Paul would consider it a bother if there were lots of posts pointing to mini-mods illustrating the bugs. :D In fact, it might even be motivation to get CocoaSpud back, as I've heard a rumor that he's been in contact with Paul...(or it might be the other way around)

Re: How to help Dungeon Craft

Tja, neither cookies nor viruses seem to be the problem. :(
Anyway, I do not have to be active in all groups, eh? :D

But thanks for the checking!

Re: How to help Dungeon Craft

:) I created the Google group for people who don't Yahoo or use this forum. :) Everything there is a repeat of info at other places with the exception of a thread on making maps of Realms cities.

Is anyone working on anything to help out with DC?

Need some guidance on something to start you helping out?

Just curious. :D:D:D
