is there any way into the asylum other than as a deviant (ie letting Desharik take me there) I got the wardstone from Perth but cannot find the entrance, any help or hints greatly appreciated

Walk onto the rooftops, then head northeast along the small trail and that'll take you off the Brynnlaw map and get you to the asylum.
