I killed Gaal at the entrance, and can not get the key to the other area. I already killed the eye, but I believe I need to get to the shade lich tomb to complete the Kangaxx quest. Is there any way to get into that room? Apparently I think too much with a sword.

This is pretty common. Reload an older game. If you have no appropriate save, I think that's it for the Kangaxx quest, unless you feel like cheating in the key for the door:
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("KEY02")
