kinda spoiler, maybe( well just read with caution if you have a bad stomach)

feeling kind of noble, and wanting the 10,000 GP i accepted the job from firkragg to ride his territory of trolls and such, I mean what do a few trolls have against a well trained assassin, after all? Anyways I get there and I am immediately attacked, by a group of monster that turn out to be knight, wow who knew... so of course there ends up being a group of dead knights at my feet, and some garren windspear phony walks up to me. he starts spouting some nonsense about the most impotent order of the mentally inept, or some such nonsense so I tell him to stuff it, and I go looking for FIrkragg. I make my way to his abode, by hiding in the shadows and avoiding all the orogs, and such in the area. well maybe i did sneak up and kill a few, just for fun, but anyways. i get there and force my way through the entrance and into the castle type area, and I meet up with someperson in there. wait a minute whats a person doing here? Well if its not firkragg then it must be someone that works for him, so i backstab and kill her, how did I know her and her friends were setting up some kind of ambush for me, the nerve of some people, ambushing me. SO i stalk them all down and kill them just on principal, and then i learn of some magical sword or something, so hoping this visit wouldn't be a total loss i set out in search for it. So after killing about 6 djinns and a behold, and some whacky fire elemental, i get this sword, turns out its a sword made for killing dragons, and a sheild as well. better save that for later, anyways I make my way to firkragg and it turns out hes a dragon. Now it all makes sense. then only bad thing is he still picked the wrong person to mess with. I decide to play this situation for all that it's worth and bide my time to kill him, he is a dragon after all and I'm not suicidal. So I convince him to let me work for him and get Garren's deed from him. so I walk to garrens house and he appears home, so I sneak in and backstab him, killing him instantly. Now Im making my way back to firkragg and I need some help, other than hide in shadow backstab run away, repeat, are there an other tactics i can use to kill this big bad dragon?

Hmm, can't think of anything. But, before you attack him, use all beneficial potions and such. Then, set as many snares as you can. Backstab him, they should go off. It should do some quick damage, hopefully.

OK Ive been working at this for quite awhile. this dragon basically has all time true seeing, so that mean relying on your backstab gets you dead. the strategy ive been using is run up to him, hit him, and run away and heal. whenever I stay to brawl I get dead. So needless to say its pretty hard, but he did piss me off so he HAS to die. I am fairly confident that he will be overcome, but it will take some serious patience. I'll post again on how it goes tomorrow. good nite.

You can try running in circles with a crossbow and pelt him with Bolts of Biting. They should reduce his life rather rapidly.

just a reminder, you CANT backstab a damn dragon.............or can you?

AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe 11-20-2001 06:39 PM

No No No No you can not backstab a dragon, why I do not understand. Theres nothing in the monsterous manual that says that. GRRRRRR!
anyways. i keep running up slapping firkragg and healing, but when i get him down to near death status, he casts a heal spell and then i die, basically. I'm sure more people than me have soloed an assassin, come on and help me out. basically to beat this dragon i need more healing potions than i can get. and its not like i can just forget killing him. actually maybe i'll just wait a little bit. vengence is a dish best served cold and calculating. hmmm.......

stormblade, how exactly would you go about backstabbing a creature with eyesight so acute it can detect the theft of a copper from a mountain of gold? hearing so acute it can hear a halfling theif half a mile away? that sleeps with one eye open?

besides, its back is higher up than you are.

hyperbole based upon the hobit. jrr tolkien.

becides IIRC (it might be another system) creatures of monstrous size cant be backstabbed by something of normal size. the monstrous manual woudnt mention something that was in the rule book.try playing as a fire-giant theif... (i wish)

to beat the heal thing - use the time hes casting it to kill him. you need a single, non fire based, attack that does at least 50 damage. horrid wilting works, but there are no items to cast that. are there? the traditional cloudkill tactic might work - 6 works on the suldenalessar dragon, firkragg should need less. ah, except you have no mage and no party. if you have ToB level up and get use all items, get a wand of cloudkill. recharge it at a shop. (sell and buy/steal it again)

arrow of dragon slaying would rock. but bioware (rightly) decided not to make them available.

ring of the ram his ass as he is casting his heal spell, that might do it. and how about the horn of blasting? not sure, but that might work. ring of the ram should do it though.

Dundee Slaytern 11-21-2001 12:43 AM

Dude... you are an Assassin. Poison your weapons and whack him, if you are proficient in crossbows, even better. Fire bolts of biting enhanced with your poison, very effective.

Buy some scrolls of Protection from Fire too and boost your Fire Resistance to the maximum, 127%. This way, Firkragg's Dragon's Breath heals you.

From a DM to ya'all gamers.

In AD&D a character can only backstab a creature with humanoid anatomy.... which is about the same height as the character.
A giant can be humanoid but the vital organs are out of reach.
An Illith can be reached but can anyone figure out which organ goes where.
Magical creatures as Dragons cannot be backstabbed. They can be stabbed in the back but you do not receive any bonusses for damaging a vital organ of the creature. And theoratically you may backstab them if you have profession biology and specialisation in Dragons but this is outside the scope of the game and a sane DM would definately NOT approve of it.

Just whacked Firthingy yesterday, though not solo and used magic resistance and harms....
