who is the best mage in the game ? and why ?

Most spells and highest intelligance is Edwin hes also the only pure mage.

There's only one serious (and it is a serious) disadvantage with Edwin; he's a Conjuror. That means - uh-oh - no divination magics! No Identify, no Wizard Eye to direct his summoned creatures, no True Sight, no Detect Invisibility... admittedly, that just gives you more room to stock up on powerful magics, and if you have a secondary mage or a cleric that's usually no problem, but, still... Edwin's not flawless.

To answer your question, I would pick Edwin, why?
-highest base INT of all mage type characters (at 18)
-extra spells due to personal amulet
-decent HP for a mage (CON at 16)
-VERY interesting NPC subquest
-pure class mage advance faster than multi-class mages

The down side is that he is a Conjurer, meaning the opposite school is Diviner. This means Edwin will miss out on spells like Oracle, True Seeing ... etc. But since he is usually not the only mage in my party, my other mage can cast these spells. He will also chicken out of certain fights and his lower DEX require spells and items beefing up his AC. The quest that involves in getting him requires some running around. And the fact that he is evil makes it a not so appropriate choice for a good aligned party and he doesn't get along with Minsc.
