Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Good day Cafe visitors! It's Tuesday here in the land of high gas prices and too short weekends! I need a few extra weekends this fall, I'm running out of them... LOL, that is I'm running out of weekends where I don't have something planned or a trip to take.... I need time to...putter about...relax...PLAY NWN OR BG1! :D

Yeah! first post (well first not by cloudy). Fuel prices eh? going up here 'cos of rumours of fuel blockades. They never happened though, just lots of panic buying. Going to uni next week, should be somewhat excited... Hoping my specs will have come back from the shop by then.

Our gas prices have started dropping but they're still about 80 cents a gallon more than they were 2 months ago, which is a huge difference. Still, a week ago it was over $3.00/gallon so I guess that's better!

What are you studying, Melcheor?

Zink Whistlefly 09-20-2005 10:20 AM

Panic buyers make me sick! We used a whole weeks worth of petrol in a single day across the country because people were frightened that there would be a repeat of the 2000 shortages, and this was before the small scale protests even began! I had such a struggle to find petrol which I badly needed (was down to 1/16 of a tank, and my 3 nearest garages were closed), and had to sit in a queue watching idiots fill their big V8 Range Rovers, and then proceed to fill around 4 large flagons too. One woman even put £2.50 worth in...WTF!?

Grrr, rant over

How's everyone doing? Where abouts in Yorkshire do you hail from Melcheor?

Engineering (I'll elaborate in order to stop this breaching rules as described in previous posts...). It's a general course cos I don't know what part of engineering I want to do. It specialises in the third year where you get the option of studying in the US at MIT, which sounds cool. Might be worth thinking about, I am technically half american you know...

(I always have to edit AAARGGGHH!)
(and again *sob*)

I hail from ripon, the oldest city (Hmmm...) in the UK. Its a bit of a dump but its home. Which "pastures green" are you reffering to, Zink?

Melcheor 09-20-2005 10:31 AM

Regarding fuel Cloudy, you have it good.

Fuel here can be as much as £1 a litre.
1 gallon = 3.8 litres
UK price = £3.80 a gallon

In dollars at the moment this is about 6.90$ for 1 US gallon.

(These statistics were obtained at speed from the internet, calculated very innacurately and rounded up for maximum effect...)

Ripon's really nice (at least as far as I remember it, but hey you'll know better than I). Haven't been there in a long while though!

I'm originally from Leeds, but I'm now living with my partner in a small village in the middle of the North Yorkshire country side (closest town is Selby). Greenery as far as the eye can see...ah, the country life! After growing up in Leeds and studying in Bradford (where I met Sal) we both decided to try the quiet, peaceful lifestyle for a while, not to mention you can get LOADS more for your money out where we are (although the prices have rocketed recently, just 1 year after we moved here and our house has gained around £20-£30k in value  :D , so it's a good job we took the plunge when we could!)
