What exactly does a Ps2 (that is ps2 port as in keyboard port) filter look like, and what does it do?
and does it look similar to a hardware keylogger?

because i have found a ps2 connector, about the size of an aa battery, if not a bit shorter, and i am concerned it could be a hardware keylogger.

It wasn't connected to my computer, but anyway i found it, and it is very worrying if it is a logger, feedback would be appreciated.

this is an actual logger, and what i have looks basically the same http://www.go4share.net/spycop/images/keykatcher.jpg

ACK!

Larry quickly jumps up and checks his own wiring for this device...

Okay, I'm good. Whew!

Man...I have never seen one o'those before.

Edit:

Hey...if it is a keylogger, then you would be able to plug it into your USB drive receiver and try to get it to show you if it has a memory file. You said you just found it lying around? Who would have possibly tapped you, then carelessly left the thing out?

Umm...encase it in a sphere of aluminum foil in case it's transmitting!

It sure looks like one. Here's a link to one that looks very similar.

So.... where are you that someone might be interested in what you're doing?

There should be no need for a PS2 filter. Perhaps a PS2 to USB adapter or an AT style to PS2 adapter, but if you have a PS2 keyboard it should plug directly into the PS2 port.

I suppose if you are that concerned about it, you could take a 20lb sledgehammer to it. :D

You wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

That's a keystroke capture device for sure. No such thing as a filter. The only filter on cables is a ferrite bead, and you snap those over the cable. Simply remove it and be done with it.

Remember though, it could be a DIN to PS/2 adapter. Have you checked the pinout on both ends?

Hmmm... just reread your initial post, and realized that you posted a picture of a keystroke logger, and not of the thing you're looking at :( Maybe that will teach me...

In any case, are there any identifying markings on the critter? words, pictures, symbols... they can narrow down what it is.

If it's an AT to PS2 adapter, the connections will be dramatically different on both sides. I've got at least one of them, and the AT side is about twice the diameter of the PS2 side. And the pins are much larger, too.

Care to post a picture so that we can examine? ;)

So that's how it looks like...

Luckily nobody isn't really using my PC... :D
