My thief was struck in combat by some evil witch and received level drain of 2 levels. I have tried eveything I can think of to fix this problem. Specfically, I bought a scroll of restoration and cast that on the thief, but nothing happened. Reading the description of "restoration" this should fix the problem. Is there a piece of the puzzle I'm missing? Maybe my cleric hasn't advanced to a level to make the spell effective? What gives?

Maybe you should try going to a temple and have the priest cast Restoration on your thief. If that doesn't work, you probably have a bug. In that case, you'll need a more rigorous solution, like killing the character and raising them. Of course, if the character is the main one, i.e. the PC, you cannot kill them so in that case, maybe you should check and see if you have the latest patch installed...
