Yes, you can take pretty much all the time you want. There aren't any time limits on the quests.

If you want to climb the level ladder faster. Break your party down in groups of 2-3. Run around Valeia, kill everything that you see. Reset the game. Take another group out and do the same thing. Once all your characters have reached level 4-5, enter the crypt, kill the Mummy and find you way to Rumphy, the undead ghost that keeps respawning (he's in the area behind the gate in the statue room. Kill him, go back to the statue room (or to the mana fountain at the top of the stairs) then go back down to kill him again (he's around 7000 XP). Keep doing this until you're satisfied of the level you attained.

Once you're happy, just go back to town, reset the game and play for real this time.
