the mroe you think it is real, the more you are attached to it. better yet, think of it as piece of trash, saves loads of time or money

but if you have anything less than a cable modem, its better just to buy it... saves time, and wont be affected by being disconnected from internet, lightning storms, etc.

As a software developer, i would suggest you buy the game. Peoples wellbeing depends on how good sales are.

Someone said, "download, it's just a game." but it's something that people put hundreds of hours of work into. they do their best to make it fun, you can atleast respect them enough to pay for what you use.
