Okay - the board being a bit slow these days, I decided to think up an off the wall topic which I thought might be fun. Let's see how it goes.

What/who do you think were the inspirations for the various monsters/npcs in the game?

Examples:
All the Rogue type characters are Bradley self portraits.
The Lilies are Bradley's nightmares about his mother-in-law (cliche but possible).
The Boogres are his memories of the kids from the Jr. High Dance.
Crabs are just crabs.
Talrik was inspired by an old uncle.
Kerah was the prom queen who wouldn't date geeks.
Cet is how Bradley feels when he reads the unfair reviews.
Sebastio was his history teacher in 11 grade.

Etc.

So have at it folks - who/what do you think inspired the various monsters/npc in the game?

Neat idea!

I think that the salads are a vestige from days gone by, where Bradley was forced to weed the family garden just one too many times, and he wondered what would happen if the weeds could fight back.

Sebastio... 11th grade history. Either that, or his father during one of those "son, let me tell you about..." lectures.

Gwylls... the high school cheerleader who teased him with dreams of going out, but dashed his hopes on the rocks of rejection

Erathsmedor... his grandfather, the real ruler of the Bradley clan with a temper that could switch from pleasant to furious on a moment's notice, often with near-fatal results.

Hephaestus... his grandmother, the one person who could keep his grandfather at bay and often served as the liaison between Grandpa Bradley and other family members.

H'Thark... his older brother, who often walked both sides of that fine line between good and bad, and occasionally got caught (and claimed it was not his fault)

Dowry priests (the ones who always want money)... the "old lady aunties" who always came around at family gatherings and would not let you go until they tweaked a cheek, occasionally tweaking it right off (or at least it felt like it)

Gorthius... the leader of the "cool kids" in high school that always offered the promise of belonging to the in-crowd, but rarely delivered.

Anephas... Bradley's alter-ego, his favorite gaming character.

The dragon daddy at the end...Bradley's REAL alter ego, the way he feels after playing this (or any other) game.

Okay, who's next? Lysandra? Kerielle? Algamesh? Tevik Teporn? Freyedies?

If we are speaking the monsters in W&W. Did anybody noticed that, for example, spiders are really spiders? Compare with other games. Spiders in other games are usually more or less ridiculous parodies on spiders. The same is true for crabs, flies, sharks, scorpions and other monsters in the game.

hmm.........i dunno much about these kind of things but, i tink Lysandra could be a girl (no offence) that was completely attracted to Bradley but perhaps, TOO attracted that she kept, well, nudging him maybe?
Maybe Freyedies was someone who was a really good friend of Bradley and keeps helping him in times of need.....

Red has a HUGE family! :D Check out : http://www.armbcr.org/smiley/bouncy.htm if you haven't visited there already! :D

My son wants me to get back to making more bouncies and specifically wanted one in camouflage. Of course, it isn't enough that I have made it (and others), he also wants me to display them on a page at the above mentioned URL. That will take more time! ;)

Now - back to the MONSTERS!!! Obviously many are just your stereotypical monsters but somewhere in the back of the designers' minds I always think they draw from something/one they know.
And why the particular character races offered? and theories on that?

Lol this could get interesting. I´d like to propose the following:

* Piranhas are the gold fishes Bradley never managed to keep alive
* Rogues are the mean boys, who stole Bradley´s lunch money back in grammar school
* The oracle is his mother always wanting him to do stuff he didn´t really feel like
* The entire sepent temple is the government. Give me money, or perish! :D
* Elyssia is his sister after he accidentally kille dher guinea pig (which of course would have to be Xydusa)
