Hmmm...I went to get Vithal's book from the miner Gnomes, got it no problem, but when I went to the Earth Elemental portal to meet up with him, all I found was his dead body. What's up with that? Anybody else experience this? I think I may have walked by the portal too closely earlier and triggered the attack on him by the Earth elemental, and he got toasted. To reload I'd have to go pretty far back into the game...is it worth it? Seems like I can get some high level scrolls for doing that quest...

I think it is worth it, but then again - maybe it ain't.
There are lots of things to find in the caves, assuming you live.

To be honest, you are not missing anything that you can't do without.
