and my question
*If I reinstall W&W do i have to reinstall the V-DUB, the PATCH and my CHARACTER EDITOR?

thx for the help (please

Okay, Dude, two answers for you:

1. You can only train level one spells... what's your (a) class level and (b) moon magic level? You can only train in spells up to your class level (half that for non-native casters), and can never train spells higher than your spell school level. It is possible, as well, that you may have learned the other spells in another class. I've done that often enough. If that's not the answer, send more details, like your current level and stats.

2. If you reinstall, you will have to reinstall virtualdub (which is to say that you'll need to re-extract the video files). You'll also have to reapply the patch, and I suspect your character editor as well. I don't know for sure, since I haven't used one, but I'd bet you a round at the Boogre Bar on it.

class assassin lvl 6 or 7 moon and fiend magik lvls probly a 1 or 2 because i have trained other abilaties, they were pushed of the screen (can someone please make a patch with a scrollbar, plz)

I never train spell schools when leveling up. I do those at the wizard's guild and temple so I never have to worry about them scrolling off. Sounds like your spell school level is the problem; you should be able to pick up two levels at both guilds right now.

Your assassin is able to gain Moon Magic spells with levels not exceeding

min( your assassin's level, your assassin's Moon Magic skill level )

Therefore, a level 6 assassin with 1 in Moon Magic can gain only level 1 spells. If the assassin had 8 in Moon Magic, he would be able to gain level 6 spells. The same is true for his Fiend Magic. (Replace "Moon" by "Fiend" in the formula above).
The assassin can gain other spells as well if he already knows "Other Magic" magic school - but only up to spell level

min( your assassin's level, your assassin's Other Magic skill level/2 )

Therefore, a level 6 assassin with level 4 Spirit Magic can gain level 1 and 2 Spirit spells. If the assassin had 10 for Spirit Magic, he would be able to gain level 5 spells.

Now that we are onto this subject of level one spells. Could someone please enlighten me on the reason why the bard is able to learn the one fiend spell and nothing more? I fully realize that the manual says, that the bard can only learn moon magic, but why the one fiend spell in addition?

Radek 02-11-2003 03:43 AM

This might be the same problem. Your bard has learnt Fiend Magic somewhere. Because Fiend Magic isn't a "natural magic" for the bard, he can learn spells up to spell level

min( bard's level, bard's skill level in Fiend Magic/2 )

Therefore, a bard with Fiend Magic 2 or 3 can learn level 1 Fiend spells. There are two level 1 Fiend spells. He got one of them when he got the magic. Thus, he can learn the second one and nothing more. If you want more, then you have to improve his Fiendcraft skill (not recommended, usually a vaste of skill points and/or money, improve Fiendcraft of some "natural caster" like a warlock or an assassin instead, improve the bard only if you do not have any other possibility and you aren't planning any natural caster later).

Well actually it seems more like a bug to me. This is the second time I play the game, and both times I have had a human male rogue turned into a bard with no other role ascencions in between. And both times he has acquired the fiend spell enfeeble but nothing more in the area of fiendcraft. Being a bard my character has joined the Wizards Guild in which he has been able to train both fiendcraft and mooncraft up to level 12. I never get the opportunity to learn anymore fiendcraft than the enfeeble spell, so I really cannot fathom why that spell always comes with the bard role.

Then it must be a strange bug in the game. Bards should get Moon Magic but not Fiend magic. This does not mean that bards cannot inherit Fiend Magic from their past. At any rate, once you have a magic school, you should be able to train it and gain spells in it. Your description shows that it might be a dangerous bug indeed. What happens if I switch, for example, from a warlock (with a Fiend Magic) to a bard? Does it mean that I cannot gain any more Fiend spells? Rrrrraughhh! If it is so than forget bards forever!

I suspect it's a glitch in the class conversion routines. When you switch to a new class and gain a new spell school, you automatically get one spell in that school. It looks like Bards may have been intended to get Fiend spells, but it was mostly taken out.

In any case, I can vouch that it's not a problem for future fiend spellcasters. I had a bard before, and that character eventually got full fiend spells with another class.
