Which is the best ranger kit to start with?

Where there are monsters and barbarians there will be Byronas fighting against them.

Archer is good, if ya like ranged weapons. I usually go with a straight ranger though.

I have a thief for the stealth modus, so I don't take a stalker. For summoning spells I use my spellcasters, so no beastmaster.
The archer is fine, with decent skills (damage and hit +1 per 3 levels and the called shot). But even an archer faces big problems in a melee fight (no specialization in melee weapons, no metal armor). Adjust your party to this disadvantage and the archer works well.
I would recommend going for short bows (two of them don't need ammunition). Bad experience running out of arrows for a longbow in the middle of nowhere.

Dude, if you want to have a character who basically controls the outcome of a fight use an ARCHER. Some people don't like to use the range attack but I think it makes the game most interesting. There is a lot of strategy in being able to sit back and fire a volley of arrows into opponants as you see fit. When you make the character load up the Long Bow ability (4 or 5 points). You can always in combat help whoever needs it, plus you can blast through mages who may be holding back in the wings. It's just a unique class in the game.
Try it!

I decided to start it as an Archer.
Thanks for your help!
