I think some of the best weapons you find are from the merchants in the first area of the Drow city. I always start there to unload and restock.

The 3 drow merchands at the start of the drow city have the best weapons there in the underdark. Just use a thief and drink 3-4 potion of extra thief and steal them all ! I was laghing when I did that the first time, I did save like 50000 gold and more by stealing all.

It's about the only place where you can get decent bastard swords aswell, there are at least 2.

The Blade of Searing - +3 Bastard Sword - you can win by beating some sap in the gladiatorial ring in the tavern, I think... and Jhor the Bleeder, a +2 Bastard Sword, is owned by some guy in the dimensional prison thing in the underdark.

Thanks to a misprint in a guide somewhere, I thought the Blade of Searing did 32 D8+3 damage. What a disappointment...

To add to RudeDawg and Accord's Staff of Striking suggestions, there are a few of these in the game, so you won't miss out on this one item by not doing the Drow city (although of course they are charged items and will eventually run out).
