Haven't been playing that long and have come across some nasty monsters called lesser basilisks (?) who kill my characters immediately (petrification, actually. Have tried using magic wands, magic arrows, but can't seem to do them in. Anybody have any tips for me?

There are scrolls of protection from petrification BUT...

the best way to do it is summoning some monster that are INMUNE to petrification (like skeletons, ghasts etc). The best choice is the clerics spell "raise dead", cause raises lots of them and they last for 8 hours.

Once you summon them, send them in front and kill the basilisk with range weapons

Potion of mirror eyes also works.

find Gorax the goul, and have him walk ahead of your party and attack the basiliks first..the petrification will only hit him then, so your party is free to attack from long range

I used Gorax the Ghoul against the Basilisks near the Dwarf mage. Then I used Mirrored Eyes on my strongest fighter with a battle axe on the Greater basilisk. While the fighter attacked I ran my archer in for some quick shots, sometimes unsuccessfuly but eventually I got them all.

Stupid newbie question: Does the Basilisks respawn after killing them all?

Mirror 03-26-2001 06:39 PM

They should. But if you've explored all the map areas, trust me, you'll have maxed out your experience points long before the final battle with Sarevok http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

(I was travelling with a full party, and maxed out while I was still exploring G city...)

Hehe, I really don't want them to come back, I don't want to see a single damn basilisk in the whole game, hehe. And the same goes for Ankhegs. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I would be extremely happy if there was a reliable way of finding basilisks in the game. Cast a single animate dead and all the basilisks in the area are as good as dead.
