im annoyed because the only to fanilars i can get are psuedo and fairy dragons, but i want a ferret.
what is the rule for the kind of familiar that you get?

The Type of Familiar you get when you use "summon familiar" totally depends on your alignment. A Chaotic Evil character will get a different familar than a Lawful Good.

P.S - I've never seen a "fairy dragon". What is it?

I think you have to be chaotic good to get a fairy dragon, but i'm not sure.

Lawful neutral will get you a ferret
