Ar-Cunin 06-08-2002 04:27 PM

it was locked when it passed 300 posts (or 320 in this case ;) )

Sazerac 06-08-2002 04:28 PM

Megabot, Ziroc has requested that no threads exceed 300 posts. The last thread closed at 321.

Our policy is that we try not to let a thread exceed 300 posts. It makes it hard for people with slow connections to access the thread if it's so long. Our record for longest thread is something like 1400 posts, but those ones take forever to load.

You're in the wrong thread then! ;)

Ar-Cunin 06-09-2002 08:31 AM

some result-updates

Mexico - Ecuador 2-1

Turkey - Costa Rica 1-1

Japan - Russia 0-0 (halftime)

Epona 06-09-2002 08:33 AM

Thanks for posting the scores!
I've hardly watched any of the matches, which is most unlike me. I've been so bloody busy!

johnny 06-09-2002 08:38 AM

Japan scores: 1-0.

Yorick 06-09-2002 08:38 AM

Here is an offshoot discussion page. (I couldn't a thread #2)

Actually megabot you DIDN't need to say it again. If you're not interested in football just avoid these threads. The only reason to repeat that you are not interested is to increase your post count.

From the title of the thread, it's obviously a football thread...I'm a bit puzzled as to why people who don't like football would come visit. After all, there are lots of other threads at Ironworks for those who don't like football - in this thread all we will be talking about IS football, and how lucky England were to get that penalty. :D

I would like to draw everybody's attention to this post. On the surface it looks very friendly and pally but on closer examination their is a 'sting in the tail'. Of course I've experienced this many times before but it's very difficult to get me to bite when I'm on Cloud 9 and the Genie is in the depths of despair! :D I expect you've been practising the Nigerian national anthem. :D

BTW - there was clear contact. :D

Okay Memnoch - I've had enough of this. If I see one more set of nested quotes I'm reporting you to one of the mods! :D

Er no! - that's just a Brucie Bonus :D

BTW - if you continue to use nested quotes I'll report you to Mum!

Donut 06-09-2002 12:30 PM

Following their 1-0 defeat by Japan today 3,000 Russians rioted in Moscow. One man was stabbed and killed.

Just to make this not spam, I have to agree with doughnut of the american spelling variety's sentiments.. that penalty was fair and square... now Donut, I think you've been too easy on people, it's really time for some reporting now. :D

Sorry Yorick, didn't mean to lock your thread, mate...I just thought it would be easier for everyone if they all knew which thread to visit, argue passionately in, and (in some cases) gloat about lucky penalties. :D

Helspanth 06-09-2002 04:15 PM

Minor update!
Tomorrow there is South Korea-USA ,Tunisia-Belgium and Portugal-Poland.
I think that Korea-Usa will be interesting:D
Tunisia-Belgium looks straightforward to me but then in THIS World Cup
I will not be surprised by anything...
Also it would be nice to see what Portugal will do

johnny 06-09-2002 04:30 PM

i think korea wins, belgium wins and portugal wins.

Lanthir 06-09-2002 11:49 PM

Can you belive that turkish player booting the winner over the net. jez I could have made that shot with one foot toed behind my back and a blind fold over my eyes.
So are we all rooting for the US over Sk in a few hours? I know soem fo you are secretly if for no other reason than to think of me as I celebrate:) Jonny I woudl think you wouldbe pullign for the US since O'Brian plays for Ajax

So does anyone one to take odds on the Italian Mexico match? hard to belive that even with a tie Italy might be eliminated in the first round.

Lanthir 06-10-2002 02:59 AM

24th minute US 1 Sk 0

Lanthir 06-10-2002 03:12 AM

Sk attempts Pk at the 40th minute blocked by US Goalie

Lanthir 06-10-2002 03:20 AM

half

USA 1 Sk 0

Kakero 06-10-2002 03:32 AM

I hope the result stays until the end because I would love to see South Korea lose on their home ground.

Ar-Cunin 06-10-2002 04:08 AM

South Korea 1 - USA 1

Lanthir 06-10-2002 04:24 AM

Final USA 1 Sk 1

Memnoch 06-10-2002 04:24 AM

Looks like it'll end in a draw. Some SLOPPY defending from a free kick from the Eagles let that SK goal through. BUT the Koreans must've wasted about 5 clear chances - their finishing was very poor.

Davros 06-10-2002 04:34 AM

Comment from the Aussie analyst - the US have been amazingly efficient in converting their opportunities. He said that the US had only constructed about 10 meaningful attacks over the two games, and to convert 4 of them was fantastic reward. Sounds a little double edged, but he said it with intended enthusiasm for US prospects.

Kakero 06-10-2002 04:40 AM

not bad, just 1 - 1. guess I can't have everything my way.

Yorick 06-10-2002 04:48 AM

Interesting game. I watched it with a very angry and frustrated American ;)

Now let's see what Portugal do...

Lanthir 06-10-2002 04:51 AM

I am rooting for a 0-0 tie for Poland v Portugal

yea Sk wasa bit sloppy but that Turkish player still get the goat award from me. I still can't belive he blew that shot so bad I mean how do you miss when you are behind the goalie and there is not any defensive player between you and the goal
all he had to do was nudge the ball towards the goal for the winner but Noooooooooooo he decided to try to power kick it in and slamed it into the side of the net shoot if he had at least gotten it to go in front of the net he had another player running right donw the center who was also behind the goalie

Lanthir, that's a big mistake. I like o'Brien, he's an okay guy and a pretty good footballplayer, except he plays for ajax. I'm a feyenoord supporter and those two teams are arch enemies. i don't expect you to know all this cause it's all happening a long way from where you live, but i just wanted to let you know that. So please, never say the word ajax again when i'm around, okay ? Anyway, i'll be rooting for the US because i don't wanna miss out on your dancing. GO USA !!!

Helspanth 06-10-2002 07:01 AM
