Could someone please help me use my shields? I have 3 fighters (1 dwarf, 1 elf, and 1 human) and I can't equip any of them with a shield.

Every time I try, I get a message telling me that "a 2-handed weapon is equiped". I get this message even if I put a damn dagger in their hands, or if I remove a weapon altogether.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have just started to encounter Verbeeks, and they are tearing me up whenever I get hit.

If you have ANY two handed weapon equiped in ANY of the weapon slots, then you will not be able to use a shield. This includes the great swords and bows. I am not sure, but I imagine crossbows are 2 handed as well. Slings are not 2 handed weapons.

Ahhhh. Now I understand. Thanks for your help! Now maybe I can fight those filthy Verbeeks and not get wiped out by them with one hit.
