Rallies are being held in some 35 capitals around the world to protest at four years of violence in Sudan's Darfur region. Around 200,000 people have been killed there since the conflict began, and a further two million have been made homeless. Most of those displaced are black Sudanese who have been driven away by government-backed Arab militias. The organisers of the Global Day for Darfur are also calling on the international community to do more to end the violence there. Today's events include a protest in front of the residence of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, a march to Rome's Colosseum and demonstrations at Sudanese embassies.

Just a little nitpik with that statement. It's the Janjaweed or Sudanese muslims which are the government backed militias causing the strife. Not necessarily Arabs. Doesn't change much though. It's still a fine old mess.

Yeah, those rally's will really make a huge difference.

Johnny you may be right on the beer, but you didnt say anything about the protest chicks. Sure they are usually homely but hey easy pickings! And bring you're own beer or fortified wine! However be careful, some protest chicks might be ummm protest dicks.

If you want an inkling of how bad it really is over there, download Google Earth and install the Darfur data.
It's horrible just how pervasive this genocide is... it's hard to believe that ANY villages in the entire (LARGE) area have not seen violence. |
