It's been dark here since 4:20 p.m. today. I'm not *that* close to the poll -- barely close enough to see the aurora upon occasion.

Beautiful picture Jorath I guess it must be odd seeing the sun set so early! I can't imagine what it would be like to live in those places where days go by without any daylight (Alaska I think?)

Jorath Calar 11-15-2004 06:29 PM

Also in Iceland

But it gets worse, in december the sun comes up at 10:30 am and sets at 3pm, thankfully in the summer (june/july) it is bright 22 hours so that kind of makes up for it...

22 hours... how are you supposed to get any sleep?!! :D Not that I'd need it, kinda a night owl during the summer. :D

The last time I was in Alaska screwed up my bio clock so badly ...

We'd come up from California to party like porn stars, because someone told us it rocked.

It does!

We'd leave the bars when they closed (at like 3 or 4 am) and it would be BRIGHT DAYLIGHT outside. Naturally, that meant the partying must continue for a few more hours.

Or days ...

There was a time when we didn't sleep for like two days straight -- afterwards found out that was a bad call :D

Dang that is crazy LOL! I suppose though if you grew up there it is a natural way of life. But having that much daylight would be insane for me LOL! Do yall have a lot of heavy drapes in your windows? Or can you sleep no prob with sunlight? Just curious, I find it fascinating!

My sun sets at 4:50 or so. Is that still too early for you, LZ? ;)

Jorath Calar 11-15-2004 07:07 PM

I don't have drapes, I sleep like a baby...

But as a teen I always got terribly depressed during the darkest winter.

Hey, Englanders can confirm this, but from what I remember they have a couple more hours light during the summer than we do. I remember daylight coming at 5 am and sunset not coming until 10 pm.
