well i just had one of those days. two days ago, my computer broke down for no good reason. first everything was slowing down and then hanging up. quick conclucion: hardisk problem. i have a 3 hardisk; 20 gig, 30 gig and a 6.4 gig. [img]smile.gif[/img] . i thought then that my windows is corrupted with a virus. therefore i reinstlled first before swithching HD. after reinstalling it twice... nothing happened. same probelm. i then switched hardisk (all three combination and installing windows) nothing happened. it took me the whole day to do all of those things, and the result: same problem ... grrrr.. :( . i was so frustrated that i finally slept and wasted an entire day with no success. the next day, i found that my fan for my processor is not working. (DOH!!!) and with 4 dollars and 30 min. i finally fixed my computer... sigh... still ... i think that two days ago, it was my unlucky day i guess. now im sure that some of you people have those same or similar experiences. care to share it?

Harkolier, I'm a network administrator. Those sorts of things happen to me all the time. I have a general rule. If I've spent 3 hours trying to fix something without success, leave it till tomorrow and generally I'll fix it within 5 minutes the next day.

I don't know whether our brains still function while we're asleep, trying to figure out solutions, or whether it's just looking at the problem with a whole new slate, but it happens regularly.

Anyway, I share your frustration, and at least you fixed the problem in the end!!!! [img]smile.gif[/img]

Well I have one of those lifes were everything is wrong... but thats not really the subject...

I'll have to agree with Aviendha here, I've often had something that I've been unable to fix for an entire day or a point in a game that I've been unable to get past. Then I leave it alone for a day or sometimes just for a couple of hours, and when I return to it I manage to beat it on my first try. And it's probably a combination of both looking at the problem from another angle as well as our brain having struggled with the problem subconsciously.

but yes, I've had similar days, one day my iMac died and then my G3 died and we were left computerless [img]tongue.gif[/img]

We then had to send them off to apple in texas for repairs...thank goodness those warrantry plans made the repair jobs free, though the computers have never been the same since...

I also had a VERY bad day the day that I had 6666 hours of play time on Phantasy Star Online... Go figure..

Open up your computer every couple of days ?

Actually most systems will beep at you when you turn the computer on to tell you that the cpu fan isn't working (unless you've turned off the notifications in BIOS). So if you hear a different beeping noise (it's different for different motherboards), check it out.

My PC refuses to boot up if the CPU fan isn't working, and shuts down if the fan stops during operation. Very useful! I think that's some function on my mobo (showing my ignorance here)
