Problem with game and saved files

Hey guys, I have a problem and I was hoping someone could help me with this. I have had the NWN Diamond Edition for a long time, and soon got into NWN Multiplayer. It was fun, and I had to download some files to match some of the servers on the website www.NeverwinterConnections.com. And, the other day I went to do a virus scan (no I don’t have a virus) and found that the files I downloaded for NWN Multiplayer were corrupt. Now, I had no idea, even though the corrupted files would make my game crash every 30 minutes or so. Anyway, I was hoping someone could help me – what I want to do is uninstall the game – deleting the downloaded files – and reinstall. The only problem with that is that I will lose my saved games. If there is a way to remove the game with all the corrupt files, but retain my saved games and I can get them back after I reinstall, please let me know. Thanks guys!

Why would you lose your savegames?

Normally uninstall won't remove your save games.
To be on the safe side, go into Windows Explorer and move all the save files to a folder outside of your NWN directory.

Re: Problem with game and saved files

Well, if I understand correctly, the hak files I downloaded for online play may be messing with my NWN gameplay. Soon after I played some multiplayer gaming, NWN would crash every few minutes. This happened to me even when I played some of the mods that came with the Diamond Edition. And there were a few files that, when I did a virus check, I found were corrupt. I suppose uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it, will remove those files that are corrupt and may let me play Neverwinter Nights again without the crashing. Now, I have a few saved games and if you scroll up this page, it says how to reinstall the game with my saved games intact. Do I have this right? Can anyone please help me? Thank you!

Re: Problem with game and saved files

Every time I try to update the NWN game, the game begins to update, but then I get a message that says,

Can not find patch file: nwn_x12_english_from1668074_to1698109.zip
Get the critical rebuild.
http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch...hotu.html#crit
The patch has been aborted

I know the Diamond Edition has a flaw that I have to do a file transfer, and with that in mind, I tried to follow those instructions, but the two ways to fix this -- there is no ZIP files in my TEMP folder, and I don't see a NWNEnglish1.66HotUUpdate.exe file listed anywhere. Can anyone help please?

BioWare has stopped hosting the auto-update patch files for upgrading from all but the most recent patches (1.67 or 1.68). In fact, any links for NWN patches that take you the bioware site will require you to go to the atari support instead. WTF?

Here's a link to the NWN patches:

http://support.atari.com/index.php?/...dex/16/patches

A link to Details on the Hotu v1.66 critical rebuild patch:

http://support.atari.com/index.php?/...-rebuild-patch

And FINALLY the actual download link for NWNEnglish1.66HotUUpdate.exe :

ftp://ftp.atari.com/patches/neverwin...HotUUpdate.exe

Isn't the diamond edition already patched to v1.66?

Also, here's a link for 1.69HotU update .exe file

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...Detail&id=1505

Let me tell you - finding those was a MAJOR BYATCH!

And just for fun, here's a wiki page with all the info on the patches:

http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Patch

Hope that's what you're looking for.

I agree. When Noty got interested in NWN and I bought her the Diamond expansion, I had to hunt for all the updates and the correct order in which to install them. Once done, I put them in a folder on a USB stick so we never have to go through that again.

I have one stick that is dedicated to updates or mods for various games. With every passing year, finding the updates or expansions for games like BG will be more difficult to find, so get them now.

Some more details on exactly what error you are getting would help.

It could be any number of things: game version mismatch; content mismatch (i.e. you don't have the necessary hak files), the server is on the fritz ......
