Hey, i was wodering if anyone had thoughts or comments on the upcoming Lord of the Rings movies, or even the series in general. Ive been a big fan of the series for quite a while, and was wondering what others thought.

Guess not. I am looking forward to it, but haven't really heard much about it.

I think its awesome that they decided to film all three movies with the same cast, director and production crew. This will give the series some consistency that other fantasy films with sequels were badly lacking.

I went to see 13 Days (awesome movie) last night and I was lucky enough to see the preview for LOR for the first time in a theatre.. all I can say is that I havent looked this forward to a movie in years.. it really looks like it could be an exceptional cinematic experience (at least Fellowship does.. obviously the trailers for Two Towers and Return of the King are still a while off).

Cant wait.

You can download the trailer from the official site:

It looks quite sharp. Can't wait until Christmas!

Does anyone know how close they are following the actual books? The only thing I am worried about is that they will try to add (or delete) things to make it "mass marketable" to everyone, not just sci-fi/fantasy fans.

From what I've gathered from various web sites it is supposed to follow the books to a point. They said they may have to remove some minor things because of the movie's time constraints.

The best place on all the infomation about the movie ive found is at: http://www.theonering.net/movie/faq/

Its tells you pretty much everything, the exact changes.. the music, even the accents they plan to use.

As far as I know Peter Jackson is following the storyline as closely as possible. Im fairly confident that he will do this as he himself is also a longtime fan of JRR Tolkien. One myth that Ive heard is that he plans on removing Tom Bombadil from the Fellowship of the Ring. In my opinion this would be a great injustice to all fans of the series seeing as Tom was one of the most important characters in the series. Granted, in LOTR's Tolkien only mentioned how Tom directly affected the plot (old man willow, barrow downs, etc.) but he was also a HUGE background player, much like Gandalf was. I seem to remember a previous thread discussing this fact but any opinions would be greatly appreciated. -Aragorn

Sauron is another thing that might be different. Peter Jackson has not said much but has stated that he will take on more of a villians role, like he WILL be seen on screen with the help of visual effects..

Ive been dying to know what the Balrog is going to look like.
