Ran through the plot too fast, and got killed in the underdark performing a "vewwy special quest" for somebody extwa special.
So this time, I'm not going to simply fly through the main plot... by now, my wife's seen enough of the game that she's having fun in her own right without lots of eavesdropping.. And I thought "why not be cheesy?" and made a kensai... but shouldn't a kensai with maxed out prof. slots in greatsword and 2-handed weapon be getting mroe than 2 atr at level 8? According to the class descrip., he should be at 3/2 with anything he bothers to pick up, let alone a grandmastered weapon... I've never been able to access the baldurdash faq page -- I get server errors -- so is this a known bug that might be fixed with the patch? (btw, if anybody DOES have access to it and can point me to a mirror or is willing to copy/paste it to me in an email (russnanna@yahoo.com), I'd be mui grateful. Thanks... |
Yes, it is a known error that Grand Mastery doesn't give you the attacks you are entitled to.
And yes, Baldurdash has had a fix for that bug for ages. |
Right. Thanks... what about the kensai atr thingy? Still pretty sure that the geek should be 3/2 with a paintbrush, if need be...

In an un-Baldurdashed game, grandmastery doesn't grant any more attacks than specialising. You get +0.5 attacks at level 7, +0.5 attacks at level 13, and +0.5 attacks from specialising+.
So, being level 8, you have the 1 attack base, +0.5 for grandmastery, and +0.5 for being above level 7 = 2 attacks per round. However, with the grandmastery fix from Baldurdash, you gain an extra + 1 attack per round, so as level 8 you would have +1 base, +1.5 for grandmastery and +0.5 for being above level 7 giving you 3 attacks per round. As for Baldurdash, the url has recently changed. Try going to http://www.baldurdash.org/. |
I must have misread the increase in atr blurb in the character creation... am used to playing finesse characters, not tanks. (as a chronic restarter, I should likely know better anyway...) thanks...
|
Then you must definately like the single-class Kensai, since it is a real finesse class to play. Much timing and maneuvrability is needed to succeed with such an all-attack no-defense kit.

It definitely seems so... without bracers or armor, standing toe to toe is an invitation to get the crapped kicked out of one...
Okay, loaded baldurdash last night... and, all else equal, the kensai is still at 2 atr... maybe I'm just dumb, but something doesn't make sense. He's 3/2 with his bare hands... with his grandmastered weapon, he's only picking up an extra half attack per round... in other words, no improvement in atr that wouldn't have happened with mere specialization... (Now, granted, what happens to his THACO is just ridiculous -- a lvl.-7 fighter with mundane weapon and a thaco of 5??? -- but that's a side issue...) You're being pretty patient with me here... can you spell this out longhand? Because I just don't seem to get it... |
Try restarting the game and seeing what happens.
|
Tried that, just to be sure before posting... still definitely 2 atr
|
The nerfing of Grandmastery was done intentionally by the makers of BG2, so the Baldurdash Fixpack does not address this issue.
What you need is a Baldurdash Tweak. Quote:
