What I want to know is this? What npcs can I absolutely not have in a party together without them fighting/forcing me to chose one? Last thing I need is to get my party together and then have to chose between some of them. What I was thinking of doing was this.

Me-Sorceror or Wild Mage
Aerie or Viconia
Jan
Minsc
Keldorn
blank

The blank slot is going to be filled with assorted other people so I can do their quests (i.e. Nalia for the castle, Jahiera for the Harper's quests). I'm worried about the interaction between Viconia with Keldorn and Jan with everyone on the face of the planet. Also, if I take Aerie, then I'll have 3 mages in the party (Jan is illusionist/thief, right?), and though I like magic, maybe it's a bit much, no? Please though, no spoilers, I'm only up to Chapter 3. Thanks.

Yes Keldorn and Viconia will eventually have a showdown, pick one now and leave one (I'd leave Viconia). Jan doesn't fight with anyone. Three mages isn't so bad, maybe after you finish the NPC quests you could get Mazzy or Valygar as another fighter to even it out.

korgan the dwarf and aerie have a spat that will result in aerie leaving too. bad if she is your romance. she also takes being reformed out the hardest of all npcs, and is sulky if you go to take her back in.

Take Aerie but if you combine with jan , aerie leaves
replace jan with keldorn

I recently read here that the ONLY 3 incompatible combinations are:

Keldorn/Viconia
Minsc/Edwin
Korgan/Aerie

--any other combos of good/evil should be stable, though you may get some nasty-looking squabbling within your party (actually it's entertaining http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif )
I've also heard something about Keldorn & Anomen having SERIOUS trouble with each other in a certain situation? - maybe someone else can expound on that, but it may be a SPOILER...

--- Sure, 3 mages are great, but whatever you do, don't skimp on your cleric. I never thought clerics were as important as mages until I had to deal with Undead creatures, which you will encounter in large quantities, as you will see. Most players prefer to have a "full" cleric (ie, not a multi-class, which will level up a lot slower) in their party - either Viconia or Anomen, depending on your taste (unless you play a cleric yourself, of course). Aerie's just fine, but I don't know if you can manage very well with her as your ONLY cleric... Best of luck!

Keldorn and Anomen have a battle only if you allow Anomen to fail his knighthood test.

For my first run through SoA, I found priests just as useful as mages. I had both of each (some multi-classed, though).

I read somewhere that Valygar and Viconia may also end up fighting, haven't validated it though.

They started to squabble but I drop Valygar before anything happened so dont know if it would go further. In fact it was Viconia who started saying to Valygar that is dirty (and stinks? - dont remember) but he was very gentle!
