How do you complete the 1st paladin stronghold quest?

It took me about three days to make it to the Umar Hills after the quest was given and I was to help out some Paladins under seige. I've checked every square inch of the map with no luck. I think I read somewhere that somebody was supposed to take you to them when you first arrive on the map but this did not happen.

Did I just wait too long or what? It said I should "hurry" but it didn't say how long would be acceptable. There's no trace of them including any bodies or sign of a battle.

Is this going to screw-up my chances of joining the Order of the Radiant Heart?

When I first run at BGII I played as a cavalier and when the quest was assignment to me, I went there as soon as I left the building. By the time I reached Umar, someone escort me to the battle site.

Three days may be a bit too long, go back to the order and see what happens. But be prepare to load a game that is prior to the order giving you the quest.
