What are the rules behind weapon specializations for fighter kits?? According to the manual, rangers and paladins can have more than 2 points assigned to a weapon. But when I try and get Minsc or Keldorn to have more than 2 points assigned to a weapon, it doesn't let me. Is this right behaviour?

I found this, too. Only Fighters (or sub-classes not restricted from said weapon) could go up to five. Even multi-class fighters are limited to two specs!

Well, in my manual (the french one, wich is by the way not a very good translation of the original one...)rangers and paladin can only be specialized in weapons, wich means they could get only 2 points...It's sure that 5 would have been better, but you can't always get what you want...

That's correct Keill. Rangers and Paladins only get 2 points in any given weapon, while fighters get up to five.

I believe, IIRC, that the reasoning here is that fighters only have to worry about being the best they can be with weapons. Paladins and Rangers have other skills to perfect also (theoretically). For instance, Paladins have to devote a good deal of time to prayer and meditation as well as learning how to heal and how to act as a knight should.

Rangers have to learn how to interact with nature, track, move stealthily, etc.

Make sense?

Yes this is right, only Pure fighters (or fighters with kits) can have 5 points in a weapon, apart from the archer kit for rangers who can have 5 points in missile weapons.

How many points can monks specialise in is that 2 or 5?

Leonidas 03-27-2001 04:40 AM

Only the first point for proficiency, I'm afraid. Your weapon is your body, after all!

Thanks for all the answers guys...I managed to find the sentence saying only pure fighters could go 5 slots about 1 hour after I posted this. Still, a lot of you explained it a lot better. Much appreciated
