I've got these icons on my desktop, starting this afternoon. They are fairly typical adware icons... travel, casino, poker etc...

EXCEPT!

(here comes the dramtic plot twist, leaving you glued to your seat... WITH CHEWING GUM!!! Muahahaha)

*ahem*

I can't right click on them, move them, or delete them. They take me to a webpage when they are clicked on, but my spyware programs (adaware and spyware doctor) don't pick them up...

:(

Try to open the Desktop folder and remove thm from there...
Failing that, google it and see if somone has a registry/advanced scan/uninstall solution for you.

Sounds like the coolsearch/lop search bar and all that comes with it. Try running Adaware and Spybot. If that doesn't work, when I had it I got rid of it with Hijackthis, but that is much harder to use.

Hey Callum,
Try a search here - http://www.symantec.com/search/
These folks usually have a free removal tool available for this kind of stuff.
Good luck!

Can you discover what the program's name is that has been placed on your PC? I mean...if you type msconfig into the run prompt and look at the startup programs...is there anything there that you do not recognize or proves itself the culprit? What about the program files folder on C:/ drive ?

Reboot in the safe mode, then delete them. Don't forget to clean your register, otherwise they'll pop right back onto your screen.

LOL

I feel for you, friend! I was having trouble with my laptop with something like this recently (made the mistake of letting younger familiy member use said computer, and it came back all messed up). It had a couple of programs/adware on it that defied all attempts at removal, from the deletion of the processes (auto-reloaded ) to instead of uninstalling when I go to windows "add/remove programs" it instead gave me a questionnaire and then when I filled out their questionnaire, IT STILL DIDN'T GO AWAY!!!

This was when I told a buddy of mine that I was going to make some very threatening phone calls/Emails to these sniveling worthless annoying little cockroaches and he said he would fix it so I didn't run the risk of prison time.

And I just got it back for Christmas (yay!). I just think that these add people are the next wave of annoyances to come our way now that the telephone solicitors are out of jobs here in the USA. And to any who say I earned that annoyance by letting said familiy member touch my computer, believe me... Lesson learned.

This explains my addiction to voilent videogames, tho (like Halo 2).
"Take that you sniveling worthless annoying little cockroaches!!!"

Nothing for it, you'll have to go old-fashioned. I think a good old format c: will fix it ;)
