Just came across this once again and thought I post it because it's one of my favourite historical anecdotes.

On a formal dinner Winston Churchill met a lady who apparently was a convinced opponent of him and his policies.
She told him: "If you were my husband, I would poison your tea."
Churchill looked at her and replied: "If you were my wife, I would drink it.

Well, Xen, Churchill was saying that he would rather be dead than be married to that woman.

Faceman, I love things like that. I can believe that he would say something like that, though it may be purely anecdotal.

He said it to Lady Astor.

His other famous put down was to Bessie Braddock MP

Bessie: Winston you're drunk!
Winston: Yes Bessie, and you're ugly, but I'll be sober in the morning!

It's not so much the joke but the imagination of Churchill saying that. He rocks :D
